Palmarejo is a Dominican brand that I recently came across during at a get together at one of my preferred cigar lounges. I was gifted a the Robusto size. I let it sit in my humidor for about a week before I light this stick up. I was pleasantly surprised how well this unknown brand could match up to any premium cigar on the market.
The Palmarejo Robusto is an attractive cigar wrapped with a dark oily wrapper. This cigar has some veins but I could tell that it is wrapped tightly by looking at the seams. When I smoked it burned excellently. The ash was a light grey and held on very well to almost three-quarters of the cigar. My only complaint with this cigar is that the draw was a bit too tight for me. I found myself pulling extra hard to get a good amount of smoke.
This cigar had a dry earthy taste that was very smooth but very flavorful. I got some hints of pepper up front that settled going into the second third of the cigar. Overall I really enjoyed this cigar, as I smoked it to the nub.
Throughout this hour smoke I found this Palmarejo as a medium body cigar. It wasn’t overbearing but it had enough kick to me interested.
I only sampled one cigar for this review so I can only base my verdict on that sole experience. I would say this cigar has potential to be box worthy if the draw isn’t too tight for you. If you come across this cigar definitely pick it up and give it a try. For under $8.00 dollars a stick, this is a cigar I would regularly keep in the humidor.
