Rocky Patel Vintage 2003 Cameroon Torpedo Cigar Review

Binder: Nicaraguan
Wrapper: Cameroon
Filler: Nicaragua, Dominican Republic
Length: 6 1/4
Ring Gauge: 52

For my most recent birthday I was gifted a Rocky Patel Vintage 2003 Cameroon Torpedo. I totally fell in love with the Rocky Patel Autumn Collection 2009 Robusto Cigar so I was really looking forward to this smoke. After aging it for about seven weeks I pulled it out of the humidor to mixed results.

Comestically the Rocky Patel Vintage 2003 Cameroon Torpedo is fine looking cigar. The chocolate colored wrapper is very smooth and soft to the touch. It is very well rolled with flawless seams.

This cigar features a bright royal blue dual band with white trim that is definitely eye catching. On the nose I got a nice bouquet of earth.

Upon cutting the cap the wrapper portion covering the head of the cigar cracked and unraveled. Regardless I continued to light the foot and take my first puff.

Fortunately I got a wide open draw that produced ample amounts of smoke for me. The flavor profile was a mix of earth and spice. For some reason I was expecting some sweeter notes but this medium stick pretty much stayed in that same earthy / woodsy zone.

The burn line started off a little erratic but evened out about ten minutes into it. As with most Rocky Patel cigars the ash was a dull grey that held on strong.

Two thirds into this torpedo I’m not really impressed. This cigar has showed very little complexity other than a touch of spice that made an appearance. While it burns well the flavor is very underwhelming to me.

Finishing up the Rocky Patel Vintage 2003 Cameroon Torpedo is a very straight forward cigar – maybe too straight forward. For a wrapper that was harvested almost 8 years ago, I found this to be a very forgettable smoke.

While it was constructed well the flavors were far from rich or deep leaving me bored with this smoking experience. Needless to say I would pass on this stick moving forward.
