The nightlife is apart of who we are at Flawless Crowns but as we get older we find ourselves to be far more selective with our energy. Certain outings though deserve our attention. We were recently were invited to an exclusive tasting of Orphan Barrel’s upcoming release The Gifted Horse. We could think of no better way to start off the new year.
Hosted at American Whiskey Bar & Restaurant, Orphan Barrel and Taylor agency rolled out the red carpet for all who were in attendance.
Ewan Morgan, National Director of Diageo’s Masters of Whisky program, was on site to walk us through the tasting. He explained that The Gifted Horse came to be as an accident. It is a blend of four-year-old Indiana corn whiskey and straight bourbon were combined with 17-year-old Tennessee bourbon by accident. Diageo was pleased by the results and here we are.
First we tasted the Rhetoric 21-Year-Old which is one of our favorites. Very rich with flavor and ultra smooth. If you are lucky enough to be an owner of this selection, you will want to enjoy it slowly so you keep it on the shelf as long as possible.
From there we were reintroduced to The Gifted Horse, which we originally tasted at their holiday event. Upon our first sip we were reminded of how smooth this bottle is given it is 115 proof. On the nose you get a subtle notes of pear and apple.
Apart from enjoying The Gifted Horse neat, we enjoyed it in a cocktail specially made by Joey Vargas, Bar Manager at American Whiskey.
Paired with the delicious liquid libations were a beautiful array of food including macaroni and cheese fire balls, fried chicken, crab cakes, lamb burgers, bacon wrapped goat cheese drizzled in honey and chocolate covered coconut for dessert.
And as always Orphan Barrel gave everyone a nice parting gift in customized bow ties and some leather stitched drink coasters. #NiceTouch
The Gifted Horse will be available for sale soon. Cheers!
