When you discuss iconic wrist wear, only a couple models should be allowed into the conversation. Since 1851 the Patek Phillippe & Co. has produced some of the most coveted watches in the world. Recently the Patek Phillippe Nautilus turned 40 years old and in turn the watch community will see 40th Anniversary editions.
Just like the original, the Nautilus 40th Anniversary editions are designed as sports watches but with a luxury profile. The Patek Philippe Nautilus Ref. 5711/1P 40th Anniversary Edition and the Patek Philippe Nautilus Ref. 5976/1G 40th Anniversary Limited Edition both bear the signature octagonal bezel.
The Ref. 5711/1P (picture above) features a platinum casing and bracelet. As far as timekeeping this edition is a 40mm model with sweeps at the seconds and dating. 18K gold is featured not only on the dial but also baguette diamonds are placed on the hour markers. Lastly the 40th anniversary stamp is embossed just above the sixth hour.
The Ref. 5976/1G is a chronograph as evident with the numbering. This model is slightly larger (44mm) and is encased in 18K white gold. Another difference is the dial here is brass and the markers are set with both princess cut and baguette diamonds.
While both pieces are stunning, we prefer Patek Phillipe Ref. 5711/1P for its simplicity. Both editions are very limited in quantity. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below. Santé!
