Armand de Brignac Champagne, also known as Ace Of Spades, is a very popular ultra premium bubbly. I first experienced Armand de Brignac Champagne in or around 2006 when it first hit the United States market. I was less then impressed but always wanted to give it another try for a proper review. I had the chance to experience it again this week and while it is much better than I remembered, it provides more of a luxurious moment versus excellence in champagne.
Visually Armand de Brignac is a stunning bottle with gold colored plating and detail. Upon pouring this pale yellow bubbly was very lively and gave me a bouquet of citrus and pear on the nose.
Upon taking my first of many sips, I got a dry compact fruit flavor profile that didn’t over power me with sweetness. I found it to be a medium to full bodied sparkler that was fairly complex with a silky finish.
While I understand Armand de Brignac isn’t necessarily positioned toward to those with refined palettes, I feel for this big price point you can enjoy better champagne with other brands.
Armand de Brignac isn’t a vintage but to be touted as the #1 champagne in the world, it should be able to compete with the finest bubbly there is. To me it lacked a brilliance, finesse and overall “wow factor” that I always get when experiencing Dom PĂ©rignon, Bollinger or even Cristal.
On the other hand if you want to splurge on a moment then this is the selection to go with, but if you’re a champagne enthusiast then might be left disappointed.
I agree. It’s a great looking bottle though
