The Blackberry Torch 9800 Smartphone
So far the Apple iPhone has been king as far as touch screen smart phones. But that might soon change. RIM (Research In Motion) is set to release the Blackberry Torch 9800 on August 14th. The Torch 9800 is a touch and type designed smart phone. It combines a physical QWERTY keyboard with a sliding multi-touch screen display.
The Torch 9800 runs on the new Blackberry 6 operating system which features a new home screen, touch screen features (screen flip, drag, pinch to zoom), and updated social networking applications (youtube, facebook). Additionally you get a 5 mega-pixel camera, GPS, Wi-Fi, 4 gigs of internal memory and much more.
I love the design of this phone. You get the slickness of the touch screen but still can type with no problems on the keyboard. The Blackberry Torch 9800 retails for 199.00 with a 2 year contract agreement with AT&T.
No strong competition to the iphone? I gotta disagre. There are now more Android phone activations a day than iphone activations.
Look at the Evo or Droid X…out specs the iphone in every way…and you can hold them however you like.
I was excited about the Torch until I saw the specs. Very disappointing. The low res screen is from the Storm (480×360) and the chipset is from the Pearl (624mhz)
Booooo.
I think we will all agree, iPhone, and Apple in general, has done a tremendous job in branding their product(s). BB must ramp up this area of their business, and look to market their products more to gen pop, especially with the economic challenges that continue to plague the nation. People look at BB as the working professionals catch-all tool, iPhone has shown it can be used for business & pleasure.
Apple is in the middle of a PR nightmare, but they will recover. Their product speaks for itself. For every problem iPhone 4, there’s an iPad or MacBook commercial to show the usefulness of the brand.
Hi there, anyway, thanks for the info!
