Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye & Hand Selected Barrel Tasting Event Review
Crown Royal recently unveiled two new variants to the family in Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye and Crown Royal Hand Selected Barrel. They hosted hosted a Father’s Day themed event where they sampled both selections and needless to say Crown Royal has done it again.
Master of Whisky Tom Turner was on hand to walk us through the tasting process which involved explaining our senses to better pinpoint flavor descriptors, describing the profile and pairing.
As usual Crown Royal ran a first class event with expert mixologists on site and a delicious food spread to enjoy with our cocktails.
While the entire night was flawless (see what we did there?) one of the cocktails was a true standout. Created by Brett Hughes at Saxon + Parole, the Crown Buck was light but very flavorful. The perfect drink for the Summer.
Crown Buck
1.3 oz. Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye
.5 oz. lime juice
Dash of fresh ginger juice
Four mint springs
We found the Crown Royal Hand Selected Barrel to have a beautiful nose with aromas of vanilla and dark fruit. It was very smooth with great balance and complexity. The only thing was missing was a medium bodied cigar.
The Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye was unique as well as this selection’s stayed more true to Crown Royal’s signature flavor profile. The nose presented a beautiful bouquet of light spice and the traditional scent of cereal since whisky is made of grains. We loved this bottle as it was ultra smooth, creamy but big all the same time as it dominated our palette.
We would like to thank Crown Royal for their ongoing courtesy and we look forward to doing formal reviews on the Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye and Crown Royal Hand Selected Barrel. Cheers!
