Rothschilds Restaurant Review
Brooklyn, NY 11217
I love that feeling of haphazardly finding a great restuarant. A really good friend of mine suggested a new place called Rothchilds in the Borum Hill section of Brooklyn. We were celebrating someones birthday and a good time was had by all. I decided to head back to Rothschilds for a traditional sit down dinner and I must say this place is one of my new favorites.
Originally called Stan’s place, the same owner flipped the space and reopened it as Rothschilds in May. This cozy Cajun dining room isn’t impressive in its size but succeeds in providing a great Big Easy charm.
Modeled with high ceilings, hardwood floors, a classy bar, and an additional loft dinning area, you are immediately welcomed in by a waiter wearing the traditional barkeeper ensemble of a white dress shirt with the sleeves up, black tie, and black slacks.
The food from top to bottom was superb. After being seated you are served their homemade jalapeno cornbread with their own butter.
For starters we had the crab cakes. These cakes were all crab with no filler and only use a pinch of breadcrumbs to provide consistency.
For individual entrees, my wife ordered the salmon with string beans and sweet mashed potatoes. I got the Cajun catfish with barbecued glazed sweet potatoes and sautéed spinach.
The desserts were quite nice as well.
Overall our experience at Rothschilds was a great one. All the food was fresh and more importantly tasty. This is great but affordable Cajun / Creole dinning (around 15-20 per entrée) with a really cool and relaxed ambience. Additionally they have about seven different Po’ Boy sandwiches on their menu that looked great as well.
I would suggest this place if you are looking to take out your lady or even just want to meet some friends for a nice bite to eat.
My only but nitpick complaints are that they only accept cash, wine and beer only, and if it’s chilly outside you will feel it if you are dinning on the main floor. Other than that Rothschilds is a win. Let me know your comments once you have tried it.
I agree…The food is great at Rothschild.
I just found the restaurant I’ll b dining @ for my Bday this Wednesday…Thanks!
Anthony,
Happy Birthday fellow Scorpio. Let me know what you think of Rothschilds. Enjoy.
What’s their best dish?
I’ve only eaten there twice, but their crab cakes were really impressive.
This restaurant is awesome. Was dragged there by a friend of mine who lives nearby. Good write-up, will have to try the crab cakes next time.
Yes, this is definitely a great find. Let me know what you think when you return!
