Puerto Rican-based Destilería Serrallés has announced the release of Don Q Double Aged Vermouth Cask Finish Rum.
Master Blender Jaiker Soto blends rums aged for five-to-eight years in American white oak casks before resting the final spirit for four-to-six weeks in Mancino Vermouth Vecchio barrels. Crafted from Italian white oak, these casks carry aromatics of the fortified wine they once held, as well as botanical flavors synonymous with vermouth.
The rum showcases these characteristics, the company says, alongside a complexity of flavor imparted by the double-aging process. Don Q’s Double Aged Vermouth Cask Finish Rum is best enjoyed neat or on the rocks.
Straight out of the bottle, the expression touted as “reminiscent of a Manhattan, the company reports, with the sweet vermouth-soaked wood barrel creating notes of cherry and raisins” that interact with the aged rum blend’s natural honey, dark chocolate and vanilla flavors. It is 40% ABV.
According to Roberto Serralles, Don Q’s Double Aged Vermouth Cask Finish Rum is the first rum to be finished in Sweet Vermouth casks.
The retail price of $49.99 per 750-ml. bottle. Looking forward to tasting this as the Signature 2005 and Signature 2007 are stellar. Cheers!
