Moët & Chandon Dom Pérignon Vintage 2002 Champagne Review
Type: Champagne
Color: Straw
Grapes: 50% Chardonnay, 50% Pinot Noir
Country: France (Champagne)
My affinity for Dom Pérignon continues on. I was blessed to see my birthday earlier this month and a very dear friend of mine gifted me a bottle Dom Pérignon 2002 to toast the night. Again it was proven to me that Dom Pérignon stands alone in champagne excellence.
To the eye this vintage captures the color of intense straw. On the nose I got a bouquet of bready minerals with undertones of pear. Upon my initial taste I experienced all the signature characteristics of Dom Pérignon: crispness, balance and finesse.
Things opens up very softly but progress to a bold finish. The flavor profile is of ripe apricots and other dried fruits. This is a medium bodied bubbly that I found to be very vibrant. If you plan to enjoy this bottle with food then feel free to pair it with caviar, oysters, sushi, and white truffles.
If you’re an enthusiast then you know this year was stellar for vintages. While the 1996 and 2000 edge this bottle out by a nose, the Moët & Chandon Dom Pérignon Vintage 2002 is a very impressive showing nonetheless. Cheers!
