Mumm Napa 2007 Blanc de Blancs Sparkling Wine Review
Type: Sparkling Wine
Color: Light gold
Grapes: 90% Chardonnay, 10% Pinot Gris
Country: United States (California)
Mumm Napa is one of California’s top méthode traditionnelle sparkling wine producers. I was recently invited by Cellar Pass to participate in a virtual wine tasting and Mumm Napa 2007 Blanc de Blancs was one of the selections on the menu.
Blanc de Blancs is a French term that means “white of whites”, and is used to designate wines made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes. I have had great experience with these type of wines in the past and was very excited to see what this vintage had to offer.
On the nose I got a plush notes of bread and citrus. Something that stood out immediately was the bubbles or lack there of. This is a very quiet sparkler with minimal bubbles.
Upon my first sip I was greeted with a nice array of flavors including lemon and apricot. The body was very sharp but fleshy and really came alive in the mouth. While it was a little sweeter than what I prefer it was the perfect bottle to introduce before serving dinner.
For future food pairings I would suggest light seafood and mildly flavored dishes that compliment its subtlety. Overall the 2007 Blanc de Blancs was a solid showing from Mumm Napa. I look forward to sharing this bottle with friends. Cheers!
