Old Pogue Master’s Select Bourbon Review
Type: Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Color: Bronze Amber
Grapes: N/A
Country: United States (Kentucky)
Old Pogue Master’s Select is a handcrafted premium small batch Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey from one of the original Kentucky bourbon whiskey families. This is a very smooth but flavorful bourbon that I was introduced to last year through a good friend. I highly recommend it.
Nose:
Old Pogue has a very nice aroma to it; it is deep but very pleasing. On the nose I got subtle hints of maple and vanilla and some other flavors that I couldn’t readily identify.
Flavor Profile:
This is where you see the magic of Old Pogue. This selection is aged for 9 years and it is very apparent during your first sip. Normally I prefer to mix my bourbon but Pogue is so smooth there is no better way to enjoy it other than neat. I got a nice rich sweetness that was nicely complimented with a spicy kick on the finish.
Body:
Pogue is a very well-balanced bourbon that isn’t too light or heavy on the palette.
Finish:
The finish was somewhat silky and moderately long with lingering notes of sweet, earth and spice.
Verdict:
Old Pogue Master’s Selection is a very solid bourbon to enjoy neat. The flavors are pronounced and more importantly tasty. Because it is so smooth I wouldn’t hesitate to suggest this bottle to any bourbon enthusiast or anyone looking a nice dark liquor. It is worth ever penny of the $48.00 dollar price tag. Cheers!
My favorite bourbon!
this is really smooth…
…another great review and excellent subject matter.
