Orphan Barrel Whiskey Co. Tasting Event At American Cut
While the chilly New York City weather makes going out a task; there are some events that we can’t miss. Orphan Barrel Whiskey Co. recently hosted a private dinner party and the affair proved to be a night of perfection.
Hosted at American Cut steakhouse in TriBeCa, Orphan Barrel’s two newest selections, Forged Oak and Lost Prophet were the stars of the evening.
Upon entry we were greeted with signature mixed drinks. The cocktail hour was very lively with a DJ spinning music to further set the mood.
At 7:00 we were all promptly seated for dinner. Here is where we were formally introduced to their newest variants.
Lost Prophet is aged 22 years and contains 75-78 percent corn, 7-10 percent barley and 15 percent rye. On the nose we got a beautiful bouquet of vanilla, dark fruit and oak. It had a medium body, hints of butterscotch and spice on the finish but had a very minimal burn. Very impressive.
Next up was the Forged Oak which is a 15-year-old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey that was distilled at the New Bernheim Distillery in Louisville and found in the Stitzel-Weller warehouses. This selection was more complex in terms of flavor profile. We got notes of dark cherry and cocoa. This is as smooth as it gets with regards to texture, body and finish. It is begging for a mild to medium bodied cigar to be paired with.
Lastly the surprise of the night was a tasting of the highly rated and reviewed Rhetoric 21. This whiskey is worth the hype and more with a very delicate balance of banana, charred cherry, currant and spice. The complexity of flavors were nothing short of outstanding; we looked at each other in pure amazement after finishing our glasses.
As the evening proceeded we were treated to what seemed a dinner suitable for royals. Curated by the head chef at American Cut, the menu included oysters, New York ribeye, tenderloin and some gorgeous pastries for dessert.
The Orphan Barrel Whiskey Co. left no stone unturned to make us and the rest of the invitees feel at home at this gorgeous event. It was very well produced and afforded us several unique opportunities to understand what makes the Forged Oak and Lost Prophet so special.
We want to sincerely thank Orphan Barrel and Taylor Strategy for the invite and look forward to doing formal reviews in the future. Cheers!
