Brunch is so trendy in New York City but few establishments really deliver the ambience, food, service and cocktails needed to really get your Sunday off to a memorable start. Penthouse 808 did that and more for me.
Located in Long Island City, Penthouse 808 is located on the rooftop level of The Ravel Hotel. The space sets a distinctive tone upon entry.
808 offers a gorgeous view of Manhattan throughout every seat in the house. My wife and I lucked out as we were seated right in front of the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge.
While giving the brunch menu an our initial look, the manager Manny visited our table for a formal introduction and asked us to contact him right away with any questions. Our son was with the sitter so we wanted to start with some cocktails.
Our server Jordan suggested I go with the Fool’s Gold (Blackwell’s dark rum, Ciroc amaretto, pineapple, and passion fruit) and he was spot on.
We started things with a grilled fruit sword which was absolutely delicious. The fruit is grilled with generous amounts of powdered sugar and maple syrup.
I ordered the steak and eggs cooked medium well. The steak was tender and the egg whites were scrambled hard like how I liked them. Additionally the salad was light and crisp.
My wife had the lobster roll and salad. She found the meat to be fresh, seasoned well and most importantly not drowned in mayonnaise.
While everyone enjoyed their food a very talented jazz band entertained everyone which everyone thought was a great touch.
We finished things off with a dessert. Honestly there are no words to really describe how good their banana bread is. As soon as we bit into it we looked at each other in amazement.
Overall Penthouse 808 is a must visit if you are in New York. We can’t wait to try their dinner menu. Cheers!
Yum! Thanks for posting this review. I love finding new places to brunch.
This just made my list of Brunch spots for November.
