Style Wars: Academy Awards 2011 Men’s Fashion
On the most prestigious award night, the Academy Awards red carpet saw some great black tie looks from some of Hollywood’s leading men. Let me show you who did it correctly and why.
Justin Timberlake is a usually safe bet when it comes to being stylish but I think he went overboard with this Tom Ford tuxedo jacket. While the peak pointed lapel is in right now, the points are almost touching his shoulders which is never good. Tom Ford fans might tell you different though.
Christian Bale blacked it out tonight and in my opinion missed the mark. Shawl lapels are very elegant and deserve a very distinct treatment. Christian decided to go with a long tie instead of a bow which would have made this look that much more cleaner considering he isn’t really groomed. Also if you notice the shoes are worn in which is clear-cut evidence of the lack of effort here by Bale.
Biutiful leading actor Jaview Bardem brought a somewhat casual twist to black tie. The neckwear is a little too loose for my liking for a three-piece tux.
And here we have a shawl tuxedo done right with Jeremy Renner.
I think Josh Brolin made this understated three-piece Ermenegildo Zenga tuxedo work although the pants could have been tailored a bit more in for a more form fitting cut.
Bob Downey sported a blue Prada two button tuxedo that had a perfect fit for his build. The blue was still a dark one so it wasn’t too much of a step back from standard black tie wear. Cheers to him for stepping outside of the box!
And for best dressed the Oscar goes to Matthew McConaughey. This Dolce & Gabbana tuxedo is fitted right and is accentuated by a silk bow tie that is not a clip on. This classic black tie look is given a modern update with the jacket cut and the white button seams. Additionally his girlfriend Camila looks very sexy in all black as the perfect visual compliment. Cheers to him!

I think Mathew and his wife did it right
I agree with your last point!
