Style Wars: Grammy Awards 2011 Men’s Fashion
The Grammy’s 2011 red carpet had a little bit of everything this year when it came to men’s fashion. Here are my thoughts on the different looks of the night.
The black on black scheme was wildly popular last night but not everyone pulled it off to perfection last night. Rapper Drake did the black on black but for some reason it made no real statement to me. The pointy lapel tuxedo blazer showed no personal touch and while I am not against clip on bow ties, the idea is to make it blend so it doesn’t look like a clip on!
The gentleman from the group Lady Antebellum pictured on the right I thought was spot on with the classic tuxedo look.
While I disapprove with the overly rocker look, it’s Lenny Kravitz so it works – for him.
Rob Kardashian of Keeping Up With The Kardashians had a real clean look with the velvet bow tie and printed blazer. The silver pants added a great touch of color that still kept the suit balanced and sophisticated.
Justin Bieber’s tux was not only a bad color for him but it was ill-fitting. Notice the gap between his neck and the front of the shirt, if you have that problem then you shirt is too big. That should never happen. The cream color was very boring to say the least and his clip on bow tie I would say is the worst of the night.
With all respect due to Ricky Martin, the aluminum foil jeggings were just too much for an event like this.
Sean Combs went with a subtle look that was begging for attention. And if that was his intention than it succeeded. The tuxedo shirt under a casual leather jacket screams 1950’s drive in movie theater which I think looks very forced on him. Even Bruno Mars didn’t go that far back.
John Mayer did his best Johnny Depp impression with a cream blazer and white dress shirt. I think a little to relaxed for a black tie affair of this magnitude.
Speaking of relaxed, Tyrese looks like he didn’t even bother with this outfit. A total fail in my opinion.
And best dressed hands down goes to Raphael Saadiq. The printed two button blazer with the classic tuxedo lined pants is a win. And to top it all off was the chocolate bow tie. A very clean, sophisticated and sharp look. Cheers to Raphael.
Was I wrong? Let me know your thoughts.
no time for ricky martin
I think Justin Beiber, Ricky Martin, Tyrese, Lenny Kravitz and John Mayer are prime examples of how not to dress during important events. Although Diddy Devil Money Is screaming for attention with corny haircut and gold fronts? the fit was still good with clean lines. I agree hands down Raphael just came correct on the red carpet and during his performance with the Rolling Stones. He clearly wants to win!
This is exactly what i needed
