The Blended Whisky Company Releases The Half-Century Blend
The Blended Whisky Company has unveiled their third release with an expression that has been curated for 50 years. Behold The Half-Century Blend.
Crafted with whiskies that were distilled a minimum of 50 years, this blend is a nod of how this spirit was made before the “whisky boom” of the late 1960’s which modernized the process and saw yield counts vastly increased.
“The result of all this inefficiency, waste and lost commercial-opportunity? Flavour, subtlety, poise, an incredible depth of fruit-character and a beguiling, ethereal quality sadly missing from many of today’s whiskies.”
The tasting notes have definitely piqued our interest:
Nose: Bread and butter pudding, well-rounded oak developing into cinnamon sticks, fruity rye, and a slight whiff of spent matches. Sherried spice appears soon after, with treacle tarts and muscovado sugar in tow. Vegetal hints of bay leaf appear a few minutes later.
Palate: Flapjacks with chocolate chips and raisins, jasmine tea and honey-nut cereals. Unmistakable notes of ancient wood sit at the centre, with Christmas-y spices and apricot jam building alongside. A pinch of tobacco and dark chocolates filled with runny caramel.
Finish: Walnuts, lingering oak warmth, chopped apricots and raisins, five-spice and hazelnut cream.
Just like their The Lost Distilleries Blend and The Golden Age Blend; this release is super limited as only 768 bottles of The Half-Century Blend were made for release.
Priced at $730.00 US, this is poised to be a collector’s item. Santé!
