Código 1530’s Rare 15-Year Extra Añejo Is Limited To Just 350 Bottles

Código 1530 is taking its aged tequila portfolio into increasingly rare territory. The brand has unveiled its 15-Year Extra Añejo Tequila, an ultra-limited double-barrel release priced at $4,100 and restricted to only 350 bottles worldwide.
The expression spent 15 years maturing in French white oak Cabernet wine barrels before receiving an additional six-month finish in French Cognac casks. Bottled at 40% ABV, the release arrives as a complete collector’s presentation featuring crystal glassware, an individually numbered case and a certificate verifying its provenance.

Código 1530 Introduces Its Oldest Tequila Yet
Extended aging has become an increasingly important part of the luxury tequila conversation, but 15 years remains an unusually long period for an agave spirit to remain in wood. Código 1530 says the new expression was aged according to flavor rather than released simply because it reached a predetermined anniversary. That approach is particularly important with tequila, where too much time in a barrel can overwhelm the agave character with oak, tannin and sweetness.
The objective was to create a deeply matured spirit that still retained the identity of the tequila beneath the barrel influence. Fully matured agave and naturally filtered local water form the base of the expression, which was produced in Amatitán, Jalisco. The lengthy maturation also creates a degree of scarcity beyond the advertised bottle count. Holding tequila in barrels for more than a decade requires significant time, storage and inventory, all while a portion of the liquid is naturally lost during maturation.

Cabernet Barrels Meet French Cognac Casks
Código 1530 has long made wine-barrel aging an important part of its identity. For this release, the tequila rested for 15 years in French white oak barrels previously used for Cabernet wine. Those barrels should introduce a combination of dark fruit, vanilla, spice and structured oak while building upon the naturally roasted and earthy qualities of the agave. The tequila was then transferred into French Cognac casks for another six months, adding a second layer of maturation before bottling.
The finishing period is intended to provide additional richness and polish without completely reshaping the liquid created during its original 15 years in Cabernet barrels. It also places the tequila closer to the world of collectible Cognac and whisky, where secondary cask finishes have become an established way to add complexity to older spirits.
According to Código 1530, the finished tequila carries a deep red-amber appearance. Its aroma profile includes toasted French oak, maple, vanilla bean and cacao, along with a subtle mineral quality.
The palate is described as full-bodied and creamy, with dried plum, cinnamon and caramelized oak. Hints of tobacco emerge during a long, velvety finish. It is clearly positioned as a slow-sipping tequila rather than an expression intended for cocktails or casual pours.

A Complete Luxury Tequila Presentation
The tequila itself is only one component of the $4,100 package. Each individually numbered set includes one 750-milliliter bottle of Código 1530 15-Year Extra Añejo Tequila, two crystal Glencairn tasting glasses and a handcrafted crystal vessel topped with a gold-plated stopper.
The collection is housed inside a bespoke presentation case and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity confirming its provenance and limited availability. That level of presentation makes the release equally suited to a serious home bar, private tasting room or spirits collection. The numbered case and crystal accessories also give owners a complete display piece rather than simply an expensive bottle placed inside conventional packaging.
While the price clearly puts the tequila beyond the reach of most casual drinkers, the 350-bottle allocation suggests Código 1530 is targeting a narrow audience of established collectors and luxury-spirit buyers.
Código 1530 Continues Its Luxury Tequila Push
Código 1530 was founded in 2017 by Ron Snyder, Federico Vaughan, Betsy Heneghan and country music legend George Strait. The brand’s portfolio spans blanco, rosa, reposado and aged expressions, along with limited collaborations and older extra añejo releases.
The 15-Year Extra Añejo represents the highest end of that spectrum, pushing the company further into a category traditionally dominated by rare whisky, Cognac and aged rum. Its appeal ultimately rests on more than the large age statement. The Cabernet-barrel maturation, Cognac-cask finish, tiny allocation and elaborate presentation combine to create a release designed around rarity from the liquid to the packaging.
Código 1530 15-Year Extra Añejo Tequila is available in limited quantities through select retailers in the United States and other international markets. Pricing is set at $4,100 for the complete presentation.
