Don Julio 70 Añejo Claro Tequila Review
Type: Tequila
Color: Clear
Country: Mexico
Aging: 18 Months
Tequila continues to soar due to the growing love affair Americans have towards Mexican cuisine. Granted margaritas are usually the suggested pairing at most taquerias, we like to really enjoy our tequila. We recently had to pleasure to taste Don Julio’s 70 Añejo Claro and it was nothing short of spectacular.
With Día de los Muertos coming up, we were gifted a bottle to try Don Julio’s Stormy 70 cocktail. While the Stormy 70 was very tasty, the Don Julio 70 is in a league of its’ own.
Don Julio 70 is an Añejo which denotes a tequila that has been aged anywhere from 1 to 3 years; 70 is aged 18 months in American white-oak barrels. This bottle is also 80 proof but doesn’t hit your palate with force.
On the nose we got soft notes of citrus and light wood. We found the taste to be very sweet and rich with a smooth finish; so smooth we preferred to enjoy 70 on the rocks which is a rarity.
Don Julio 70 Añejo Claro Tequila was made to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Don Julio distillery (1942) and we think the staff at Don Julio did a stand-up job in commemorating this special occasion. If you tequila is your go to spirit then you won’t be disappointed. Cheers!
