The Leica Q3 43 Formula 1 Edition Is A $9,950 Camera With Racing DNA

The Leica Q3 43 Formula 1 Edition brings racing materials to a familiar photography platform, with a $9,950 price to match its luxury positioning. The special edition launches a new licensing partnership between Leica and Formula 1, pairing the German camera maker’s Q3 43 with carbon-fiber components, red accents and a finish inspired by racing steering wheels.
Unveiled at the Leica Store and Gallery in Los Angeles on October 20, the collaboration was presented by Formula 1 presenter Ariana Bravo and 2009 world champion Jenson Button. It is aimed squarely at enthusiasts whose interest in photography overlaps with an appreciation for motorsport design.

The Leica Q3 43 Formula 1 Edition Takes Its Cues From the Cockpit
The most immediate change is the black Microvelour covering wrapped around the camera body. Modeled on racing steering wheels, the material gives the housing a textured appearance that suits the edition’s mechanical details. Leica describes the covering as non-slip, giving the design a practical purpose where the photographer’s fingers meet the camera.
The wireless charging handgrip wears a carbon-fiber shell, while the thumb rest and soft-release button receive matching carbon details. Leica says these components are manufactured and tested in Germany. Their visible weave adds another recognizable motorsport reference, with the material concentrated around the camera’s handling and control points.

Red accents reinforce that connection. The soft-release button’s red rim and a red function button draw on the color-coded controls used on racing steering wheels. Here, the idea is to make particular controls easier to identify while adding a small burst of color against the black finish.
F1 logos appear on the top plate and lens cap, while the included rope carrying strap bears both brands’ identities. Custom presentation packaging with a red inlay completes the set, carrying the visual theme through the accessories and unboxing.
Taken together, the changes give the Leica Q3 43 Formula 1 Edition a distinct personality. Its strongest design move is the placement of the racing references: on the surfaces and controls an owner will interact with every time the camera comes out.

Familiar Q3 43 Hardware, Plus an Exclusive Formula 1 Look
The photography hardware comes from the regular Q3 43, including its fixed APO-Summicron 43mm f/2 ASPH. lens. That focal length offers a natural perspective suited to portraits, street scenes and travel photography, while the wide maximum aperture allows subjects to stand apart from softly blurred backgrounds.
For a race weekend, think people, architecture, cars at close range and the atmosphere surrounding the event. Photographing distant on-track action still calls for the reach of dedicated sports equipment.

The full-frame sensor offers 60-, 36- or 18-megapixel capture, letting owners choose between maximum resolution and smaller files. All three settings use the full sensor area, so choosing a lower resolution keeps the same framing. For travel, that flexibility helps balance large files against storage and sharing needs. Hybrid autofocus rounds out the underlying system. These are established Q3 43 capabilities, so buyers can assess the edition’s extra appeal through its design and accessories.
One exclusive addition affects the photographs themselves: the Formula 1 Leica Look. Accessed through the Leica FOTOS app, this image-rendering option increases contrast and saturation for a richer treatment of the scene. It can be applied while shooting, with the effect visible in the viewfinder.
The Look changes the image’s visual character; it does not introduce a new sensor or faster shooting mode.

Price and Availability
The package includes the wireless charging handgrip, thumb support, soft-release button, carrying strap and presentation box, alongside the camera’s standard essentials.
Leica currently lists the regular Q3 43 at $7,950, placing the Formula 1 package $2,000 higher. That difference puts the purchase in perspective: the added attraction is the motorsport styling, coordinated accessories and exclusive Look layered onto an established camera.
As with the Louis Vuitton Magnolia Record Player, the appeal extends to the object itself. For a photography enthusiast who follows Formula 1, those details are the reason to consider this particular edition.
