RIMOWA Turns Its Aluminum Luggage Into A Luxury Dartboard

Created in collaboration with British darts specialist Winmau, the limited-edition RIMOWA Dartboard Case transforms the traditional wall-mounted cabinet into a $6,300 piece of functional art. It is excessive, highly engineered and arguably unnecessary, which also makes it one of the most interesting products RIMOWA has released outside its core luggage collection.
More Than A Dartboard Cabinet
At first glance, the case resembles a piece of RIMOWA luggage that has been opened vertically and mounted to a wall. Its double-door exterior is made from the brand’s signature grooved anodized aluminum, complete with engraved rivets, custom locks and a black leather handle. The handle allows the entire assembly to be transported, although carrying a luxury dartboard from room to room feels less like a practical feature than an opportunity to make an entrance.
Inside, black microfiber lining replaces the exposed wood and green felt commonly associated with traditional dartboard cabinets. Integrated compartments built into both doors hold two professional three-dart sets, each fitted with black RIMOWA-branded shafts and red-and-green flights patterned with the company’s monogram. A separate leather pouch stores replacement components and smaller accessories.
The organization is unmistakably RIMOWA. Every component has its assigned place, the interior is carefully divided and the object communicates the same sense of precision found inside the brand’s suitcases and specialty cases. This is not merely a standard board placed inside an aluminum box. The RIMOWA Dartboard Case’s cabinet has been designed around the game, giving the entire setup the appearance of professional equipment rather than novelty merchandise.

Why The Winmau Partnership Matters
That distinction becomes more convincing once Winmau enters the conversation. Founded in 1946, Winmau is one of the most respected manufacturers in competitive darts. The collaboration includes a co-branded version of its Blade X, the company’s current flagship board and the official main-stage dartboard of the Professional Darts Corporation.
The Blade X uses layered sisal construction, carbon-reinforced bonding and an ultra-thin angled wiring system engineered to increase usable scoring area while reducing bounce-outs. Winmau says the board was validated through millions of test throws and backs it with a five-year warranty. In other words, RIMOWA did not place an inexpensive recreational board inside an elaborate cabinet and allow its logo to do the remaining work.
That decision gives the collaboration credibility. Someone prepared to spend four figures on a dartboard case may be buying it primarily as a design object, but the equipment remains capable of supporting legitimate play. It is the same principle that separates compelling luxury sports products from decorative props: the craftsmanship should elevate the experience without compromising the activity.

Extending The RIMOWA Design Language
The RIMOWA Dartboard Case was constructed at the company’s historic Cologne headquarters, further connecting it to the manufacturing story surrounding its aluminum luggage. The grooves, rivets, locks and handle are not arbitrary brand signatures pasted onto an unrelated object. They are elements of a design system that RIMOWA has refined for decades and can now apply almost anywhere.
We have seen the company use that system on watch cases, wine cases, poker sets and other collectible objects. The Dartboard Case continues that expansion, positioning RIMOWA not simply as a luggage manufacturer but as a maker of portable containers for expensive lifestyles.
Is It Worth $6,300?
That is also where the price becomes part of the story. At $6,300, the RIMOWA Dartboard Case costs dramatically more than the Winmau Blade X housed inside it, which currently sells separately for less than $200. Buyers are not paying for access to a better game of darts. They are paying for the aluminum architecture surrounding it, the limited production, the RIMOWA name and the ability to turn a recreational object into a centerpiece.
Judged strictly as sporting equipment, the economics are almost impossible to defend. Judged as furniture, collectible design and brand theater, the proposition becomes easier to understand. The RIMOWA Dartboard Case is intended for a customer who already owns the luggage, recognizes the grooves from across a room and wants that visual identity extended into a game space, office or private club.

Walton Goggins Adds Personality
RIMOWA embraces some of that theatricality through its accompanying campaign starring Walton Goggins. Filmed inside the company’s Cologne factory, the campaign places the actor’s eccentric screen presence against the precision and restraint of RIMOWA’s manufacturing environment. It gives the launch an appropriate sense of humor without treating the product itself like a joke.
That tonal balance matters. A $6,300 dartboard is inherently ridiculous, and attempting to present it with complete seriousness would make the collaboration feel detached from reality. The Goggins campaign acknowledges the spectacle while allowing the manufacturing and design to remain credible.
Final Thoughts
The RIMOWA Dartboard Case ultimately succeeds because RIMOWA understands exactly what it is selling. This is not a necessary improvement to the game, nor is it pretending to democratize professional darts. It is a beautifully constructed container designed to make an ordinary social ritual feel more ceremonial.
Whether that makes it an ingenious game-room centerpiece or the most elaborate solution ever created for storing six darts will depend on the buyer. Either way, RIMOWA has once again proven that its aluminum design language can travel much farther than the airport. The limited-edition RIMOWA Dartboard Case in Silver will be available beginning July 30 through select RIMOWA stores worldwide.
