Sennheiser’s Momentum True Wireless 5 Have Replaceable Batteries

Sennheiser has introduced the fifth generation of its flagship true-wireless earbuds, and the most interesting upgrade has less to do with sound quality than how long the product can realistically stay in your rotation. The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 5 feature rechargeable batteries that owners can replace themselves in both earbuds and the charging case, addressing one of the biggest limitations of premium wireless earbuds.
Priced at $299.95, the new earbuds also bring Bluetooth 6.0, Dolby Atmos spatial audio with head tracking, upgraded adaptive noise cancellation, improved call quality and up to 40 hours of total battery life. Sennheiser will begin shipping the Momentum True Wireless 5 on September 3, 2026.

Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 5 Put Replaceable Batteries First
Battery degradation has long been one of the inherent compromises of true-wireless earbuds. The speakers and electronics might remain perfectly functional, but once the tiny rechargeable cells begin losing capacity, replacing the entire product can become more practical than servicing it.
Sennheiser is taking a different approach with the Momentum True Wireless 5. Owners can access and replace the rechargeable batteries inside each earbud as well as the charging case using a standard Phillips PH000 screwdriver. Sennheiser identifies the compatible replacements as its BA 501 two-earbud battery set and BA 502 charging-case battery.
That user-serviceable design could give the Momentum True Wireless 5 a considerably longer useful life than many of its competitors. It is especially meaningful on a pair of earbuds priced near $300, where battery wear should not necessarily determine when an otherwise functional product needs to be replaced.

Bluetooth 6.0 and Lossless Audio Push Connectivity Forward
Sennheiser has also significantly upgraded what happens between the earbuds and a connected device. Bluetooth 6.0 arrives alongside multipoint connectivity and support for SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX Adaptive and aptX Lossless codecs. High-resolution wireless transmission reaches up to 24-bit/96kHz with compatible equipment.
The acoustic foundation itself remains familiar. Sennheiser continues using its proprietary 7mm TrueResponse dynamic transducer, refining rather than replacing the driver architecture that powered the previous generation. Sennheiser says it has also adjusted the sound signature, including a more balanced midrange, cleaner and more controlled bass response and additional energy above 12kHz intended to create a greater sense of space. Users can further tailor the presentation through the Smart Control Plus app, which includes Sound Personalization and an eight-band equalizer.

Dolby Atmos Brings Head Tracking to MOMENTUM
Immersive audio becomes a larger part of the Momentum experience with support for Dolby Atmos spatial audio and interactive head tracking. The system is designed to create a three-dimensional presentation that can place sound around and above the listener rather than limiting playback to a traditional left-right stereo field. Head tracking can adjust that virtual soundstage as the listener moves, with Sennheiser positioning the feature for music as well as movies and gaming.
It is another example of Sennheiser expanding the technology surrounding its established TrueResponse driver rather than chasing an entirely new acoustic architecture for the sake of a generational update.

Sennheiser Also Reworked ANC, Calls and Fit
The Momentum True Wireless 5 received several practical upgrades beyond sound and connectivity. Hybrid Adaptive ANC automatically responds to surrounding noise, while a new Adaptive Anti-Wind feature detects gusts and adjusts noise-control settings in real time. Natural Transparency allows outside sound back in when needed.
Call quality has also been reworked around four microphones per earbud, including a voice accelerometer that uses bone-conducted input. AI-powered voice isolation and beamforming are designed to better separate a speaker’s voice from surrounding noise.
Sennheiser redesigned the physical housing as well. The earbuds now sit lower in the ear and were developed using extensive in-ear scans, while revised ear tips aim to provide a stronger seal and improved passive noise isolation. Sennheiser says 73 percent of participants preferred the new fit to the previous generation. The earbuds also carry an IP54 rating for resistance against dust and splashes.
Battery Life Climbs to 40 Hours
The focus on longevity extends beyond replaceability. Sennheiser rates the Momentum True Wireless 5 for up to 12 hours of playback from the earbuds with ANC turned off and up to 40 hours when factoring in the charging case. Playback with ANC enabled is rated at up to six hours from the earbuds.
A full charge takes approximately 1.5 hours, while an eight-minute quick charge can provide roughly another hour of listening. The case supports USB-C and Qi wireless charging. Those numbers make the replaceable-battery system even more interesting. Sennheiser is not simply increasing how long the earbuds operate between charges; it is also providing a path for owners to restore that performance once the rechargeable cells eventually begin to deteriorate.
Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 5 Price and Availability
The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 5 are priced at $299.95 and are scheduled to begin shipping on September 3, 2026. They will be offered in five metallic finishes: Graphite, Cream, Copper, Denim and Lavender. On paper, the Momentum True Wireless 5 look like one of Sennheiser’s more meaningful true-wireless updates. Bluetooth 6.0, Dolby Atmos, stronger noise cancellation and improved call performance all help modernize the flagship, but allowing owners to replace the batteries addresses a more fundamental weakness of the category.
For a product designed to command premium money, making it easier to keep using it for premium amounts of time might ultimately be the most important upgrade of all.
